The "Central Missourian", California, Missouri newspaper, contained an article on May 12, 1866, "Mrs. John Vanlandingham of Boone Co. killed by lightning while in the field with her husband planting corn".
 John H. married his second wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Blackman Rutledge of Cooper Co., MO 14 July 1867 (1870 census Boone Co., MO p. 125-2). John H. appointed administrator of estate of William M. Vanlandingham on 20 January 1865.
