Note: Thomas Vanlandingham, fifth child of James Vanlandingham was the first child born by James's second wife Elizabeth. Thomas was born in 1788, probably in Bourbon County, Kentucky and died 18 October 1856 in Kenton Co., Kentucky. Thomas' sons Lewis and William were Administrators of Thomas' estate. There is a marriage listed in Boone Co., Kentucky marriages, Valandingham, Thomas & Polly Bates, bond 26 Oct. 1812. Bondsman, Wiley Bates, license returned 26 Oct. 1812". Thomas Vanlandingham is listed in the 1820 census of Harrison Co., Kentucky on page 150 with 4 males under age 10, 1 male age 26 to 45, and 1 female age 26 to 45. In the Campbell Co., Kentucky census of 1830 Thomas is listed on page 496-249 with 9 males in the family: 2-U5, 2-5/10, 2-10/15, 2-15/20 and 1-30/40. Only one female, 30/40. In 1830 Thomas would have been 41 or 42, the census taker probably made an error in listing Thomas' age. Kenton County was created from Campbell County, Kentucky June 1, 1840. 1840 Kenton Co., Kentucky census, page 295, Thos. Vanlandingham is listed with 5 children remaining in his home. He and his wife are both listed ages 40 to 50. Thomas' sons Theo is listed on page 294 and Jas. L. on page 295 in the same census. In the 1850 census of Kenton Co., Kentucky Thomas Vanlandingham is listed on page 205, family #1068, age 62, born in Kentucky, Mary is 59, born in Kentucky, and Daniel is 20, born in Kentucky. No other children listed. Thomas was a farmer with real estate valued at $2,500.00. (Note: Thomas' age in the 1850 census record does not agree with his age in prior census records.) Thomas Vanlandingham served in the War of 1812 and apparently received a land grant for his war service. From "The Reporter Quarterly, Vol. 5, No. 2, Genealogical Society of Central Missouri, Columbia", "Index of original land patents of Twp. 48, Range 13, Vanlandingham, T = H3 - 80 Acres 10 Nov. 1826 - Sec. 20. Thomas' brothers James and Merit also patented 80 acres each in the same area in 1826. Thomas' mother, Elizabeth, in her will dated August 15, 1832, mentioned her son Thomas. He was to receive only ten dollars, "as a token of my affection & rememberence of him". From Kenton Co., Kentucky Index to Order Books, Lewis and William were administrators of the estate of their father Thomas. And from Inventory Book 4, p. 20 - 29 Nov. 1855 William and Lewis produced inventory of personal property of Thomas Vanlandingham, and on p. 428 settlement of the estate was recorded.
