Note: Gore was a member of the famous "Magi" fraternity at the University of Detroit, but had to drop out when he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps just prior to WWII. He became one of the most decorated fliers in the war, piloting a B-26 and a A-26. At one time he had over 75 missions, the second highest in the European Theater of War. In the 50's he flew during the famous "Berlin Airlift" when he was stationed at Munchen. In the 60's he was stationed in S. Korea. He had also been stationed at Mc Dill AFB in Tampa and at the AFB in Montgomery, Alabama. He retired as Lt. Colonel. Gore is very good at cards, especially bridge and poker. His father often remarked that, because of his record of winning at poker while in service, he could have made his living on that skill. After he retired from the Air Force, he tried opening a suburban shop featuring brass items from Korea, but it failed. His wife Colette died of cancer and he returned to finish college when he was living in Florida and got almost all-A's. After his graduation, he went into the purchasing dept. of the local government, but quit because he thought they were unethical. He pumped gas at the Tampa Yacht Club marina to supplement his pension. He got married to Sylvia, who loved his passion for golf. They lived in St. Petersburg, Florida, and spent their summers near her hometown on Cape Cod. When her Alzheimer's got worse, they separated and her family placed her in a facility near them. Gore began suffering from Dementia and his daughter, Frances, & her husband, Eric, welcomed him into their home at Westerville(suburb of Columbus), Ohio.
