Note: ed since 1913 with the John D. Van Allen and Son department store and for many years company treasurer, died at 6 a.m. today in Miller hospital, St. Paul, Minn., after being stricken a week ago while visiting friends. The body is being returned to the Bragonier-Fay funeral home where friends may call after 2 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the First Presbyterian church. Dr. Bruce McCullough, pastor, will officiate. Rose Croix services will be conducted in the church in conjuction with the services. Burial will be in Springdale cemetery. Walter D. Morris, Jr., was born on Jan. 30, 1885, in Rochester, Minn., the son of Walter D. and Mary A. Archibald Morris. At the age of three months his family moved to Watertown, S.D., where he attended the Mitchell public schools. In 1906, he was graduated from the Shattuck Military Academy at Fairbault, Minn. He entered the banking business in Watertown following his graduation. On Sept. 25, 1912, he married Bessie Van Allen. In 1913 he came to Clinton and joined the newly incorporated Van Allen firm. He remained active as a company officer until the time of his death. His wife died on Aug. 2, 1941. He was a member of Emulation Lodge A.F. and A.M., DeMolay Consistory, and B.P.O. Elks. Surviving are one son, Walter D. Morris III; one daughter, Mrs. Ellis (Mary Jane) Case, both of Clinton; eight grandchildren; two brothers, Archibald J. Morris, Los Angeles, Calif., and Lorenzo T. Morris, Watertown, S.D. and one sister, Mrs. Roy D. Goepfert, Watertown, S.D. Besides his wife, his parents preceded him in death.
