a. Note:   John & Ellen Babcock lived in Odessa, Ontario in a house on the south side of South Street. John purchased lot 248 in the village from James Johnson on the 14th day of January 1854 and registered the deed on 11th day of July 1870 in the Registry Office for Lennox and Addington County in Odessa Book 1, entry 224.
  John was a Wheelwright by trade and built buggies and sleighs in his carpentry shop next to his house on South Street. The 1860 Wallings Map,Odessa Village inset, (on display at the L & A County Museum in Napanee)shows his shop as "W.W. Shop" on the South side of South Street just west of his brother Lorenzo Dow Babcock's blacksmith shop on the corner of South and Bridge Sts.
  The Odessa Fire Map, by Chas E. Goad C.E., Montreal dated 1893 shows a1-1/2 storey house and Carpenter shop on the south side of South Street mid way between Cross and Bridge St., directly across from the Cupola Foundry building on the north side of South St. A Deed of Land registered in the Registry Office for the County of Lennox and Addington in Book 19 for the Township of Ernesttown, Number 9329 records the sale of this property from John Babcock & Wife (Ellen) to John H. Babcock of the Village of Odessa for the sum of $600.00. This sale took place on November 4th, 1907.
 John is buried in Wilton Cemetery.
