a. Note:   Alice, according to my mother, was not very "preposessing". She lived the last 15 or 20 years with her daughter, Emily, I think in Chicago. She was said to suffer from a very rapid heart rate and spent most of the time in bed. Emily was "burdened" with her care. I think she is buried in a Van Benschoten plot in Greenwood Cemetary, Brooklyn, N. Y. There is also an infant, Samuel VanBenschooten buried in the same plot, just the two burials in a quarter circle plot on a little bluff overlooking a well known muselleum and a pond. It could be another Alice and Samuel but I think it is probably her.
