Note: Lewis and family lived on a farm, but when his wife died, leaving him with two young sons, he moved to Wellman to give him more time to rear them. While still on the farm in 1902, he started upon his duties as a mail carrier on route 4 and continued it for nearly 24 years. He received a government pension for this work on Dec. 19, 1926. He was a member of the Asbury Methodist Church, Odd Fellows Logde and Rural Letter Carriers' Association.
