a. Note:   He migrated to Kentucky with his parents and settled near Bowling Green where he learned the blacksmith trade.He did not move to
 Illinois at the time as his parents did and was included in the census
 of Warren Co., Ky., in 1820. He migrated to Johnson County, Illinois
 in 1822 where he married Parmelia Chapman, and settled on a tract of
 land in Vienna Township for about two years. He then secured a tract
 of land in Simpson Township, built a log house and lived there until
 his death in 1872.
  Ishmael built the first grain cradle in Simpson Township and became an
 expert in its use. At the time, it was considered a great invention
 and he cradled all the grain in the neighborhood for several years.
  He was a Republican and a member of the Presbyterian church.
