Notes
a. Note:   Pleasant Green Veach was tall, slender and dark complexioned and was called "Black Plez". This distinguished him from his cousin, also
named Pleasant, who was fair, short and chuncky, and called "White
 Plez".
Pleasant Veach resided with his parents until his marriage when he
bought a farm in Simpson Township. In 1861, he enlisted in the Union
Army, Company F of the 48th Illinois Infantry, and was engaged in the
Battle of Shiloh where he was severly wounded. Unable to rejoin his
regiment, he was sent to Cairo, Illinois and discharged on
 disability.
On July 9, 1865, he bought a farm in Bloomfield Township, Johnson
County, which had about 15 to 20 acres cleared, and built a log house.
He resided there until his death in 1895, at which time,175 acres of
his 215 acres had been cleared and improved. After the death of his
first wife, Isabelle, in 1876, Pleasant married M.T Van Cleve's older
sister, Amy Susan, on July 6, 1884. Florence Veach, Pleasant's
daughter by his first wife, married M.T. Van Cleve, and thus, her
 step-mother became her sister-in-law.
Pleasant was a member of the Missionary Babtist Church, a Republican
and a member of Vienna Post No. 221, G.A.R.
