Notes
a. Note:   Mary Ann married Jack Sibbit and had three children; Frank B., born Aug 23, 1874, Mary A., born Feb 24, 1875, both of whom died young,
and Lou Roy born Nov. 27,1875.
Jack died in 1877 and in 1879, Mary Ann migrated to Colorado with her
parents, brothers and young son, settling in Boulder. She married
widower, Henry Addison Shumway in 1881, and they lived at Ward and
Jamestown where Henry mined. About 1884,they established their home in
Left Hand Canyon above Boulder, and lived there the rest of their
 lives.
Mary Ann was well known and liked by the Indians in the early days,
and was one of the few people who could cross Indian territory
unharmed. It was told that, while crossing indian territory near
Grand Junction, Colorado, the stagecoach in which she was riding was
surrounded by indians but when they found that Mrs.Shumway was in the
stagecoach, they let it pass unharmed. At her mountain home, she often
prepared big meals for passing Indians.
She was a charter member of the First Christian Church of Boulder and
was active in its early history but later became a member of the
 Seventh Day Adventist Church.
