Note: Enlisted in the Wisconsin Regulars in Civil War in Brodhead, Wisconsin.in 1861. After the Civil War he lived in Bel Plain, Iowa, Minneapolis, Minnesota, Benton Co., Iowa, Miami, Oklahoma, Gravette, Arkansas. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Uncle John" was often talked about by Mabel Twan Singleton, as he was her favorite uncle, and she remembered him clearly. When she was a young girl, Mabel Chase Tway moved in with Uncle John in Gravette, Arkansas in his old age. Below is the letter he wrote to Mabel Chase Tway "Gravette, Ark. Apr. 20, 1927 My dear neice Mabel and family. I got your most welcome letter a few days ago and was glad to here from you and hope you will come and see me soon or rite away. I have a proposal to make you and Hubey. I see by morning paper you are having some high watter at Augusta (Kanss). Hope it don't affect you there. Write by return mail and let me know if can rite away can tell you better what I would like to be done by you and Hubey then can write. Then could show you just what I have to offer you . Your loving Uncle John. P. S. Let me hear from you at once or still better come. J. W. C. I need you. Mabel, I will make it plainer what I want. I want you to come and take care of my home for me. When I am done with it all goes to you. I -------some on that ---will take care and look after me and make it pleasant for me. I like to have children and I can help you other ways. See can???/ Have 7 room house all furnished. Let me here from you by return mail.
