Note: John W. Chase, Born 1811 is the last known Chase ancestor from primary sources. A researcher acquaintance of Mable Singleton by the name of Marlene Burress who lived in Oregon said the this John Warren had a brother Charles Chase who married "Low" girl. Also brothers Isaac Chase and Eli Chase. This is our only source for this information at this time. There is a Charles M. Chase, born 1835 who married Emily Low in Clinton, Me. Dec. 18, 1860. (there is a 24 year age difference between this Charles and John Warren Chase, born 1811). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mabel Singleton noted an Eli Chase, born 1846 in Stetson, Maine, and was mentioned in the Benton Co., Iowa 1862 Centennial. He had an age difference from John Warren Chase, born 1811, of 35 years. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The genealogy from John W. I know she is talking about his son, John Warren Chase, born 1840 when she says "Uncle John". Here is the interview: "Grandpa Chase lived at Split Log, Mo. Schoolhouse across the road from his place. Cut timber, made house, had sawmill, cut lumber. One side was kitchen - came a snow, had to bring chickens in on the porch. Uncle John played games - was the nicest man I ever knew. We moved in and Uncle John was chasing me. We had a big sawdust pile. I cut my toe. I came out and Uncle John didn't know what the trouble was. My toe was bleeding. Mama called the neighbors. They said soot stopped the bleeding. I was little bitty - 3 or 4 - I remember so well looking at my toe. Uncle John bought me a car. He wanted to do something nice for me (note by Mabel Singleton - this was when mom and us kids lived with Uncle John in Gravette, Arkansas.) Uncle John's Army - 18 days with just crackers - they crossed horseback - one guy was superstitious that something was after him - they butchered a beef. A rebel around No Man's Land called "Oh Johnny, you got any coffee? I'll give you a quarter and I had a ring made out of it - can't find the ring." (Note: The ring was later found and in possession of Ellen Vandiver.) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1820 U.
