a. Note:   William fought for the Confederacy in the Civil War. He enlisted at Stony Creek, Va. on Sept. 7, 1862. William was listed on the Scott Co., VA. Muster Roll, 25th Cavalry, VA. He enlisted with Capt. James Collings. This company was designated as Captain Collings' Company, Triggs' Batallion, Partisan Rangers.
  He had an occupation he did not like, as a "paddy roller" - Aunt Ruby said that was the only job he could get.
  William Taylor Collings' army records and marriage record in Washington Co., Va., shows Collings spelling.
  William and Elizabeth were in Abington, VA in 1854 when Nancy was born.
