 Carrie Della Ozburn Ralston left Kansas with her children after her Ist husband died. She was susposed to have gone to the coast of Washington to cook for her Uncle (Ozburn) in his hotel/rooming house. From there she went to the Shaniko area to cook for her Uncle Julius Spate McCoin on his ranch. She met James Samuel McElroy at a dance in Shaniko where he played the fiddle. He worked for the railroad as a blacksmith. Carrie and James S. McElroy were married in Shaniko, Oregon. Their first child was born there. They moved to Walla Walla, Washington where two daughters were born.
