HISTORY OF MACON Co, MISSOURI, Sesquicentinnial Edition, Macon county Hist orical Society 1987, Submitted by Adra House Coghlan Mt. Pleasant, Iowa: BENJAMIN HARRISON; Benjamin Harrison was born in Jones Co, North Carolin a. He came to Macon County about 1856 with his parents, William and Ma ry (McDaniel) Harrison (1813-1880). William's parents were John and Eliza beth Harrison (1778-1866). There were both William and John Harrison's li sted in the unofficial 1784-1787 census for Jones County and these names a re also found in the official 1790 national census. William Harrison and Mary McDaniel were married 12 Aug 1832, and had 13 ch ildren, four of whom died when young. Her parents were John and Mary McDa niel and there were numerous McDaniels in the 1790 Jones County Census. Their children were John (1834-1886), married Louisa Clay Hackley; Jose ph (1836- ), married Mary _______, Elizabeth (1837-1891) married Geor ge A. Redmon; Susan (1839- ), married David Carnahan; Elamanda (1840-18 40); Lewis (1842-1842); George (1843- ); Thomas (1845-1916), married Flo rence Redmon; Matilda (1847- ) married John Daugherty; William (1849-1 851); Mary (1852- ); Benjamin (1854-1940) married Adra Hutchinson (1861 -1931); and Frederic (1856- ) married Patience Hutchinson. All exce pt Frederic were born in Jones Co, North Carolina, and he was probably bo rn in Muscatine Co, Iowa. Apparently William and his family came to Missouri first, followed by h is oldest son, John and his family. The courage of William and Mary, with their children, and his mother, Eliz abeth, to decide to sell their homelands in North Carolina, move away fr om family and friends, and make the long trip to Missouri, is remarkabl e. There was no mention in the Missouri records about Elizabeth's husban d, John. Perhaps he died earlier in Jones Co, or on the long trip. Th ey crossed North Carolina, forded turbulent rivers, travelled the trackle ss miles of the prairie lands and forests to reach their destination. William Harrison settled his family on a farm in Jackson Township. Lat er Frederic Harrison would have the south half of this farm and Ben wou ld take the north part and build a house there. William died 7 March, 186 3, age 57, and is buried in Mt. Tabor cemetery. Mary, born November 15, 1 813, died June 14, 1880, aged 66, and there are Mt. Tabor tombstone recor ds that show Elizabeth, his mother died February 4, 1866. Mary Harrison a nd several of her children were listed among the organizers of the Fairvi ew Methodist Church in the early 1860's. It disbanded during the Civil Wa r, but was reorganized in 1876. Original members included Mrs. Mary E. Harrison, G. A. Redmon and wife, Joseph Harr ison and wife, and John Hutchinson and wife. In the Macon Co. Deeds office is recorded the Will of William Harrison: ( a) receipt 'for furnishing materials and fencing grave of deceased, $ 10 to David Carnahan.' (b) receipt for $15 for 'American Granite stone with verse: Blessed are t he dead which die in the Lord from thenceforth, yea saith the Spirit, th at they may rest from their labor and their works do follow them. Died 7 M ar. 1863, aged 57 yr. 1 mo. 15 da.' Migrated to Macon Co, MO from Jones C o, NC after brief stay in Muscatine Co, IA. \\\\ --Records of Dianna Harrison-- Apparently William and his family came to Missouri first, followed by h is oldest son, John, and his family.
