  Obituary: Ex-Mayor of Collins is dead at 88
 Louis Van Dran, 88, part of the Collins community history since 1914, died Sunday night about 9 at the Story county Hospital. {mar 28, 1971}
  Mr. Van Dran had been in failing health for some time and a patient at the Borton Rest Home in Nevada [Iowa]. He was admitted to the hospital only a short time before his death.
  A native of Plano, Ill., he was born November 7, 1882. The family moved to Chicago where he grew up. He then moved to Independence, Mo., where he was a carpenter and an insurance salesman.
  In 1914 he moved to Collins and, the following year, was married to Miss Pearl Maranville.
  For years he built locker plants and other structures over a wide area. the Collins water tower still stands as an exhibit of his work. He served as city policeman for Collins, was on the city council, operated a restaurant for 10 or 12 years, and was Mayor of Collins for 20 years.
  He retired 10 years ago, but continued to do some contracting work.
  Mrs. Van Dran died on Feb 3 of this year.
  Survivors include a sister, Mrs. William Reese of Independence, Mo.
  Funeral services will be held at the Cooper funeral home in Maxwell at 1:30 pm., wednesday with burial in the Collins Evergreen Cemetery. Elder Earnie Myers will be in charge.
