a. Note:   John Brant's mother died when he was but one and one-half years of age and his father died a year later. He was placed in a convent, where he learned the blacksmith trade and when a young man went to Pennsylvania, settling in Lancaster County, where he met Elizabeth Stauffer. After their marriage they remained in Pennsylvania for about nine years and it was there that their children were born. John first migrated to Franklin Co. Ohio then on to Putnam Co. Ohio. Information taken from Putnam Co. History. John died Kalida, Ohio is buried Kalida Cemetery.
