a. Note:   John was b. PA according to the 1850 and 1860 censuses, probably in Berwick Twp, York Co, 4 June 1794 [tombstone reads 3 June]. Nothing is known of his boyhood and young manhood except that he was living with his parents in Berwick Twp, Adams Co. at the time of the 1800 and 1810 census. By the 1820 census, he is 26 years old, married with two female children under five, and living near his parents in North Twp, Harrison Co. OH. Sometime ca 1817 he married Susanna [Trainer] who was born 29 Mar 1798 in PA according to census and tombstone records. She is buried beside John in the Huges Cem. between Kaldia and Vaughsville in Putnam Co. OH., having died 4 Oct 1861.
