a. Note:   George moved to Gibson Co., TN in 1835 and after Mary died he moved to Wright, Alabama as a plantation manager, where he died in 1865. Stephen Lee Denney writes that he was born in October 1800 in Person County or Granville County, North Carolina, and married on August 8, 1824, in Smith County to Mary Powell Winfree, daughter of David and Aschah Tuck Winfree. He first appears in the record serving as security for William Davis when Davis was appointed guardian of two children, on November 8, 1819. In 1828 George was sued by Jonathan Denney on behalf of Stanford Denney, the case was dismissed per request of the litigants.
