a. Note:   Jacob was born in Germany in 1839 and immigrated to America in 1854. He joined his brother Gottlob in Indianapolis, where he worked during the day to pay for night school for 7 years. He also served an apprenticeship of 3 yrs at the carpenter's trade until 1863 when he joined his brothers in the saw mill business. The brothers operated 2 saw mills, one in Indy and the other in Jackson Station in Tipton County.
 April 11, 1866 was the wedding day for Jacob and Mary Karthauser. They produced 4 children, and belong to the Lutheran Church.
 In 1872, Jacob moved his family to Tipton County. The saw mill business was sold in 1873 and Jacob turned his attention to farming a tract of land which had been purchased because of its valuable timber. The land was 400 acres in Liberty and Cicero Twps. 180 acres were cleared by Jacob himself! He began farming corn and wheat, raising livestock, where he sells 50 - 80 head of hogs every season.
 Politcally, Jacob was a Democrat, and served 3 terms as a County Commissioner.
