  Dale R. Pulver, 1929�2008
 Dale R. Pulver, 76, of Mentor, OH, a prominent philatelic
 researcher and authority on the stamps and postal history of
 Mexico, died March 26. He was a member of Writers Unit #30
 and wrote a monthly column on Mexican philately for Linn�s
 Stamp News for 25 years. His first column appeared on May
 9, 1983. His final column appeared in the April 5 issue.
 Pulver also wrote Introduction to the Stamps of Mexico,
 published in the Linn�s handbook series in 1992.
 He was thrice honored by the U.S. Philatelic Classics Society, receiving the Stanley B. Ashbrook
 Cup in 1978 and the Lester G. Brookman Cup in 1986 and 2000.
 Pulver won the Ashbrook Cup for his series of articles for the
 society�s The Chronicle of the U.S. Classic Postal Issues on the postal
 history of the Mexican-American War. The Brookman Cup is
 for outstanding service to the society.
 His article on �The Analysis of Postal Markings on Pre-Stamp
 Covers of Mexico� in the 1987 Congress Book won the McCoy
 award for the best article in the annual publication.
 Some of his many exhibits were shown internationally and
 won awards at Israphil 85 in Tel Aviv and Ameripex 86.
 Born June 18, 1929 in Rochester, NY he started his education
 in a one-room, stone schoolhouse in Spencerport, NY. He received
 a bachelor�s degree in chemical engineering from Cornell University.
 Pulver was a chemical engineer at the former Diamond Alkali
 Company in Painesville, OH for 34 years, prior to his retirement in
 1986. This included a five-year assignment in Mexico from 1964 to
 1969, which kindled his interest in the philately of Mexico.
