a. Note:   She had to have been married before, possibly to another Crispen. In the 1870 census Thomas's 3 younger children are listed, then another girl, Ann is listed last age 16, the same age as one of the other Chrispen children. It looks like this is Mary's daughter from a previous relationship. I don't think William or Mabel Chrispen are her children. She would have been 56 when William was born and 59 when Mabel was born.
 In the 1880 census Thomas is remarried to a much younger woman, Fayette who is just 30, William and Mabel are more likely her children.
