Note: NOTE #1: The children of Albert and Susannah (Van Nest) Slingerland: 1. Rebecca is proven by her birth / baptism record found on FamilySearch.org at the Reformed Dutch Church of Albany, New York. In the tradition of Dutch naming she was probably named after her grandmother Rebecca Viele. Nothing further found for Rebecca Slinderland. 2. John is proven by his birth record found on FamilySearch.org at the Reformed Protestant Dutch Church of Caughnawaga, Fonda, Montgomery, New York. He was probalby named after Susannah's bother John Van Nest (Van Ness) who moved to Bluff Point, Yates, New York right next to Branchport, Yates, New York where Susannah is buried. I believe this John Slingerland is the one who removed to Tioga County, Pennsylvania with brother Tunis between 1830-1840. 3. Abraham is proven by his birth / baptism record found on FamilySearch.org at the First Presbyterian Church, Broadalbin, Fulton, New York. He was probably named after his grandfather Abraham Slingerland. He is also proven to be the Abraham Slingerland living in Canadice, Ontario, New York by a bible entry showing his birth date in the posssion of another researcher on Ancestry.com. One record states that Abraham married Thankful Collins Kinney 20 Jan 1822 in Broadalbin, Fulton, New York just another clue to his ancestry. One possible tie to the Tioga Slingerlands is that Tunis named a daughter "Thankful" not a name commanly found in the Slingerlands and possibly named after Abraham's wife Thankful Collins Kinney. 4. Tunis is not proven to be Albert's son however this Tunis, possibly named after both his great-grandfathers, moved to Tioga County, Pennsylvania with John Slingerland and Henry P Van Ness possibly his brother and cousin 5. Vanandrus is possibly the one person that links all this family together. He is found in the Branchport Hill Cemetery along with Susannah (Van Nest) Slingerland, probably his mother. Susannah Van Nest's father was Ferdenandus Van Nest referred to in some records as Verdenandus Van Nest. Several of the children of Ferdenandus Van Nest named their sons Ferdenandus, Verdenandus, Vernandus, Van Andrus or just plain Andrus. This pattern of naming is persistant in this Slingerland family. Van Andrus, Andrus or Vanandrus Slingeralnd as he is called in several records was probably named after his grandfather Ferdenandus Van Nest. We see this name again in Henry Spencer Slingerlands son Frederick Van Andrus Slingerland and again in Henry and Orcelia Slingerlands son Franklin Andrus Slingerland. 6. Peter is proven by his birth record found on FamilySearch.org at the First Presbyterian Church, Broadalbin, Fulton, New York. I cannot find anything further on this Peter. He could possibly be the same person as Vanandrus Slingerland listed above. He was probably named after Susannah's brother Peter who had a son Henry P Van Ness who also moved to Tioga County, Pennsylvania. 7. Stephen is added only because his wife Phebe Boyd was buried in the Branchport Hill Cemetery along with Susannah and Vanandrus, Stephen was probalby named after Albert's uncle Stephanus Slingerland. I cannot find anything further on Stephen. 8. Nancy is added here because in Abraham's will he bequethed the sum of $25 to his nephew Abraham A son of Nancy Slingerland. I don't know if this Abraham A was a Slingeralnd or not and I cannot find anything further on him or Nancy. 9. Henry is added for several reasons. First, he lived in the same area of Canadice, Ontatio, New York as Abraham. Second, his is the correct age being born in 1813/15. Thirdly, he was made co-executor of Abraham's will along with Thankful C Slingerland, Abraham's wife. Fourth, he named his first son Franklin Andrus Slingerland. Fifth, his son Abram Albert Slingerland. NOTE #2: The1825 New York Census included Albert and John Slingerland at Starkey, Yates, New York. The 1835 New York Census included Abraham, Adruss and Stephen at Jerusalem, Yates, New York. The 1840 New York Census included Abram and Andrew at Jerusalem, Yates, New York.
