  Served as superintendent of schools in Dos Palos, Merced, CA for many years.
 His wife, Olive was a librarian at the school and taught piano at home.
  With other school administrators, took out a 99 yr lease on land in Yosemite National Park near Wawona. Beverly remembers going there almost every summer. Her dad taught her fly-fishing. Later on the group built a house and several cabins on the land Jackson Van Polen helped with the electrical work. The Van Polen family continued to vacation in the cabins, enjoying the fly-fishing, the bats, the deer and the scenery. Beverly taught Jackson fly-fishing, a pastime the enjoyed for many years, driving their camper up relatively unused roads to rivers and streams all over California.
  Don's parents, Fred Ellsworth and Lucy Rose lived in an extension of his home in their later life. They were fond of gardening.
