a. Note:   BENJAMIN COE BARNES
  Born January 19, 1832 while the family was living in Olmsteadville, Essex, New York...quite close to Minerva, Essex, NY where his mother's family, the Talbots, hold land and a run a mill. In 1846 the family moves to Minerva, his father, Thompson Sackett Barnes, having bought 2 acres of land and the mills from his father-in-law, Edward Talbot. The Barnes family grows--Benjamin is a middle child of 11 siblings. His 3 older brothers work the land and eventually are given an interest in it. Two of his brothers later serve as soldiers in the Union Army.
 Benjamin becomes a Methodist Episcopal Clergyman. He attends the Poultney Academy in Poultney, Rutland, Vermont. Poultney is just up the road from Pawlet, Rutland, Vermont where Milton Bourne began his life in the Methodist Episcopal Ministry. Is it possible they met at the academy? Could the families have been acquainted from these early days. (Benjamin's daughter Lucy will marry Milton's son Fred in Iowa).
 He begins his career as a circuit rider and continues the life of an itinerant minister in Iowa throughout most of his life. In 1858 he marries Rosanna Johnston of Millersburg, Pennsylvania.
  In 1871 Benjamin Coe Barnes becomes the first pastor of Coon Creek Church in Linn Township, Linn County, Iowa

  On April 4, 1818, Rosanna dies in Lisbon, Linn Co, and is buried in Lisbon Cemetery
 On 1919 Benjamin dies in Lisbon, Linn Co. Iowa and is buried in the Lisbon Cemetery.
