  Thompson Sackett Barnes (1799-1901) was born in Panton, Vermont, and brought up in South Schroon, New York.
  March 21, 1824 -- Thompson married Jane Potts Talbot. They lived in South Schroon for a few years from 1824 to 1830. Their first four children were born in South Schroon:
  Edward Martin Barnes in 1825
 Dennis Edwin Barnes in 1827
 Samuel Cook and Sarah Ann Barnes (twins) in 1829.
  In 1830 the family moved from South Schroon to Olmsteadville, Essex County, New York. Seven more children were born to Thompson and Jane:

 Abt 1855 - Laura Amelia Barnes marries Charles A. Rice, b. 1829 New York. They move to Grand Rapids, Michigan
  1858 -- Benjamin Coe Barnes age 27, has become a Methodist minister in Iowa. He marries Rosanna (Rosa) Johnston, b. 1832 in Millersburg, Pennsylvania. Benjamin will live and raise his family in various small towns in Iowa.
  Sept 1859 -- Samuel Cook Barnes marries Margaret Hare
  1860--Thompson sells an interest in the business to each of his eldest 3 sons (Edward, Dennis & Samuel), "who had helped in the mills since they were 17, 19 and 21. Dennis operated the grist mill.
  21 September 1861 - Dennis Edwin Barnes enlisted as a Captain at the age of 34, Commission in Company C, 93rd Infantry Regiment, NY on 07 December 1861. Charles Talbot Barnes enlisted at the same time and served in the same regiment. Both enlisted for three years. Soon after enlistment Charles was promoted from private to 5th sergeant and again to Orderly Sergeant of the company at the time of the battle of Fredericksburg, May 3d to 5th, 1862. Reenlisting as a veteran after two years service, he was promoted to 2d Lieutenant in 1863. (The roster of Minerva men also included Private James Barnes and Private Edward Talbot (Jane's nephew)
  Abt 1863 - Wesley Barnes marries Julia Vosburgh
  May 6 1864 - Dennis Barnes is killed fighting with Company C, 93rd Regiment in Wilderness, Virginia. Charles Talbot Barnes was severely wounded at the battle of the Wilderness, May 5th 1864. He was then promoted to 1st Lieutenant Sept. 20 1864 and discharged in December, 1864 on account of his wound at the Wilderness. On Oct. 23rd 1865, Charles was promoted to rank of Brevet Captain for gallant and meritorious conduct in service.

  Abt 1876 - Charles Talbot Barnes marries Marion Ashby.
  1878 - Adeline Willis, wife of Edward Martin Barnes, dies. Their children (Laura age 14 and Willis age 6) go to live with Thompson and Jane.
  January 1880-Thompson's wife, Jane Potts Talbot Barnes, dies. Thompson, age 80 relies on Celia Maller Sherman to run the household. Celia is from Germany, possibly a servant in 1870. She is now married, with a daughter of her own, age 6. Her husband is not listed as a member of the household.
