Note: {geni:about_me} Katerina Wurst was seven years old when the family arrived from Germany in 1833. She Married in New Washington and died there. Mrs. Paul Miller, mother of Susan Engemann, was born 15 DEC 1827 at Katzweiler, two hours from Kaiserslautern, Bavaria, Rheinfalz. She had light brown hair and was less thatn five feet tall; she was short and stout, a plain dresser, a born lady. She was not a gossip, nor would give ear to gossip; wanted no quarrel or argument. She went to mass every morning if her health permitted it. It mad no difference how bad the weather was. (The Miller house in town was just about a block from the church.) She was fond of flowers, plants, trees, shrubs. She was bitten by a milk snake and the mark showed as long as she lived; it more or less pained her at times. Grandmother Miller (Katherina Wurst) went to a private school for three months at a cost of fifty cents per month. One year later, they had a free school to which she went six months. Her father taught her German, but she could not read or write English or German. (Catherine was just six years old when the family emmigrated from Germany.) John (Mel) Straub's recollection: Great-Grandmother Wurst was a woman of medium build, pleasant disposition, full of fun, a woman of ability, a midwife who helped bring Mel Straub into the world. Was not a gossip, had no use for gossip, had native ability, was well read for those times, very friendly, liked by all, had a good memory, and was well mannered. (This last part disagrees with earlier notes that Katherina had limited schooling and could niehter read nor write.)
