a. Note:   1900 census, 5 remaining children lived with Eliza, widow in Marshan Twp. Eliza said she has had 10 children; 5 are living. In 1910 Eliza lived with single children Richard T., John C., Mary A. and John Varien (probably son of Wm & Sarah Varien ("Alazia Varin"). Obit gives birth as 1838 and says she died of apoplexy after a week's illness and that she and Richard located "upon their farm" in the spring of 1865; cemetery says birth was in 1840
