Note: Bio in "The History of the Minnesota Valley" it says that Halsey lived in MI from infancy to 5 yrs when the family moved to WI. He lived in various parts of the state and in Davenport, IA and then 5 years in St Paul. He was discharged on Apr 7, 1862 after being injured and returned to MN. His home at the time of the writing was Troy, MN. In 1850 he was living with his parents and brother in Winneconne, Winnibago, WI; listed as Hawley. In 1857 at age 23 he was listed as a barkeeper in Hastings, MN. In 1860 he was living with Eliza and Frederick in St. Paul, MN ; in 1870 had 4 children, but Frederick was not there; living in Bensen Twp, Chippewa County, MN; listed as blacksmith in both years. Company K, 2 MN Infantry unit corporal on Union side in Civil War inducted on Aug 20, 1861 at age 27 and discharged 1890. Article in July 20, 1887 Faribault (Rice Co, MN) newspaper mentions his coming to MN 31 ys ago (1856) and describes recent trips around the world while serving as a master machinist aboard ship. At that time he lived in CA, but recently returned to Rice Co. 1900 he and Eliza lived together in San Francisco, CA; listed as landlord.
