Continued: Christening year in IGI listed as 1871. It appears that 1873 is more likely correct. Further research required.
CATHEDRAL OF "NUESTRA SEÑORA DEL REFUGIO" (Calle Quinta between Calle Gonzalez and Calle Morelos). Built in 1832, it has suffered many hurricanes and has been rebuilt maintaining its original French Creole style. In 1958 Pope John XXlll created the New Dioceses for Matamoros and assigned as Cathedral the church of "Nuestra Señora del Refugio". Today it beautifies the center of our city.
Death certificate appears to state that Luz was laid to rest in the 'Catholic Cemetery,' which would almost certainly refer to Holy Cross. Further research, however, is needed to confirm this.
