 !3. The above research indicates that both James and Sarah came from Ireland by way of Canada and married in the USA.They lived all their married life in Butler and Beaver Co.'s, PA. - 13 children. However, other family sources say he came from Scotland.

 !5. e-mail research from lauragb@juno.com (Laura G. Butler) 6/15/97 shows that James was in the USA before 20 Jan 1795 and was naturalized with sponsor Peter McLaughlin of Pittsburg, PA. He and Sarah were married in Ireland.
  It is possible that he came from the Banbridge, Seapatrick area of county Down in Ireland. Research continues.
  James Thompson emmigrated to the United States via Canada. He married Sarah Gilliland and they kept a boarding house east of the Alleghenies. They later moved to Beaver Bounty, Pennsylvania. (From records of John A. Hogg, Jr.).
  James Thompson and his sons, James and John are listed as taxpayers in 1854 when Cherry Township was organized in Butler County, along with "John Irwin's heirs" , daugher Elizabeth Thompson Irwin and her children. [Online GENWEB Project for Butler co., PA]
  William Hall came to stay at the boarding house and met Minerva Thompson there, whom he later married. She and her sister were working nearby when he first approached, and Minerva laughed at his long legged appearance. Her sister warned her not to laugh or she'd marry him - which she did.
