a. Note:   n Dayton, studied civil engineering, and then returned to Morristown, New Jersey. While there he learned the trade of printing and subsequently worked for the publishing firm of Harper & Brothers in New York City for about two years. He returned to Dayton and purchased an interest in the 'Dayton Watchman and Mechanics' Journal' on January 15, 1826. This paper was discontinued on November 21 of the same year. He was married to Barbara Bradenburg, and had one son (Simeon) by her. Barbara died before 1835, and in that year Ephraim took as his second wife the widow, Tryphena Crane Bradford. They had three children. He later worked as a house painter. Ephraim was elected Secretary of the Montgomery County Pioneer Association at its formation on Saturday, November 30, 1867.
