Notes
a. Note:   Possible surname = Massey, as first son was given that name and it is the surname of a prominent family in early VA.
In King George Deed Book 2, pp 455-56 there is an indenture made 1 July 1742 between John Thomas of Washington Parish in Westmoreland County in which he leases land from William Newton of Brunswick Parish in King George County. There is reference to John's now wife Susannah and his son Benjamin. The identity of Susannah as his wife would account for the granddaughter by that name named in John's will and for the fact that his son Massey named his only daughter Susannah.
The abstract of the deed reads:
Indenture made 1st July 1742 between William Newton Brunswick Parish King George County and John Thomas Washington Parish Westmoreland County . . . in consideration of yearly rents of 600 pounds tobacco and the Quitrents of 150 acres to be paid yearly beginning 25th Dec 1744 . . . during natural lives of John Thomas, Susannah his now wife and Benjamin Thomas his Son or longest liver. . .John Thomas will at his own cost build . . . one Dwelling House 16 foot long and 12 foot wide. . . one Milk House 8 foot square and one Tobacco House 32 foot long and 20 foot wide. . . Plant 100 apple trees and 20 cherry trees. . .
