a. Note:   A. It appears the couple had no children, as his wife soon remarried, and no children were named in the will. He showed a total value of £512.00 , £68.00 being household goods and the remaining £444.00 being seven slaves (Judith , Tilda, Dafney, Moses, Thomas [adult], Thomas[boy], and Elizabeth).
  She was the dau. of Richard Gaines, named in James Jr.'s will. She remarried soon and was named in her father's will (w.d. 27 July 1802, w.p. 18 Feb 1805) as Gemima Speak. Another sister, Elizabeth was md. to a Benjamin Thomas in 1779.
