Note: ights in estate to mother Elizabeth.Signed by Reuben Thomas, John Thomas, William Thomas, Massey Thomas,Jesse Thomas, and Susannah Thomas with witnesses Richard Dickin, BenjaminDickin and Henry Lewis Junior. Will of John Thomas names Elizabeth, widow of his son Massey An affidavit filed in the Madison County Deeds as of Dec 4, 1797 Henry Lewis, administrator of Massey's estate disclaims any liability for the sum of 107 pounds 18 shilling by Reuben, John, Jesse, William, Massey, and Susannah Thomas. This would seem to indicate that Elizabeth had died by this date, and this was the final settlement of Massey's estate. Her father-in-law's will contains the following provision: Item I give and bequeath to my daughter in law Elizabeth widow of my son Massey Thomas her and her heirs forever provided she remains a Widow two negroes Hannah a woman and Will a boy-- !1. Culpeper Co. Circuit Court Records, Culpeper, VA; Deed Book M, pg. 185 An agreement dated 6 mar 1782 and recorded 21 Jun 1784 FHL# 0030932 names the living children in an agreement to let their "mother" Elizabeth remain in the family home for the duration of her life. !2. It is not readily apparent if any of the children were hers. !3. FHL# 30932, Culpeper Co. VA Will Book C 1783-1791; in the will of John Thomas [wd 29 Apr 1782, wp 21 Feb 1785] she is named as "daughter-in-law Elizabeth, widow of my deceased son, Massey Thomas."
