Mr. Kellum, 86, died in a Dallas hospital Monday after an illness of six months. He had been in ill health since before moving to Dallas 25 years ago. Born in Wolf Creek, NC, he came to Dallas from Hunt County in 1930. He was a member of a Baptist church in Hunt County and of the Odd Fellows in Commerce. He had made his home with a son, John S. Kellum, since 1936. Other survivors are sons, Clarence and W. A., both of Dallas; Samuel W. of California; Jess L. of Garland, Frank and J. D. of Tyler; a daughter Mrs. Louvina Knight of Dallas; a brother, J. W. Kellum of Dallas, Mrs. Mary Crouch of California; 25 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great- grandchild. Chaplain B F Bennett of Baylor University Hospital will conduct the service. Mr. Kellum's grandsons will be pallbearers. [Note the spelling of Louvina - I've seen it so many different ways] !NOTE: In a email from Linda Morris on Wed., 28 Mar 2007, in part she states the following: Hiram's son LD is actually J.D. Hiram's birthdate is 19 Oct 1968 [1868] according to his death certificate signed by John Sidney. He died 29 Aug 1955 (not 20th). He was buried 31 Aug 1955. He died of terminal broncho-pneumonia due to marked arteriosclerosis and senility. The death certificate also says he was widowed although Jessie didn't die until many years later. I thought that was interesting. Apparently he didn't recognize his second marriage after he left her? Jessie's death certificate shows that she was divorced. She was born Sept 29, 1887 and died March 30, 1977. !NOTES: A letter to Virgina Jo Ann SUMMERS-ARNOLD on 25 Jan 2002 From James DIXON, We were unable to contact your hotmail.com address, so here is a brief family line from Hiram to my step-daughter: Hiram and Mary Ella Kellum had another daughter named Luvenia Blanche sometime between 1899 and 1903. She married Joe Cecil Knight in 1923. They had four children (two boys and two girls) Howard, Marjorie, Mildred/Jenny, and Louis. (Louis has told us that he was actually adopted, but we can't find any documentation to support this fact.) Anyway, Howard married Juanita Dodson around 1945, early in the year we believe in Hunt, Co., TX. They had five children: Edna Mae; Howard Cecil, Jr.; Helen Ruth; Curtis Richard (died as an infant); abd Billy Wayne. Edna had two children with a man named Jack Bailey. Their names are Lloyd Cecil Bailey and Helen Marie Bailey Wilkie Hackworth Wilkie (she was adopted, got married, divorced, and took her adopted name again). Helen Married Charles Hackworth III and had three children: Stacy Denice (still born), Kristopher James (now 16), and Kristin Ja'net (now 14). This is the step-daughter that we are trying to find any geneology information for. I hope that this helps you in your search. Just for your info: Hiram, a son by the name of "Sid", Howard, Sr., and Luvenia are buried at Laurel Land Cemetary in Dallas, TX. Joe and Mildred are buried in the cemetary in Malakoff, TX. If you would be interested in a photocopy of Hiram's death certificate, I can get that to you if you let me know how to get it to you. If you have access to a fax machine, send me the number and I'll fax you a copy of the death certificate. We also have the death certificates for Luvenia and Joe, if they would be of any help. We would be very grateful and interested in any further information that you may have on any of Hiram's or Mary Ella's ancestors. We only know that Hiram's father's name was John Kellum from KY, and his mother was Adeline Newton from TN. We don't have any other information than that. It seems that the family was in farming for several generations, and we believe that some births were either not recorded or we aren't looking in the right place. Thanks again for your assistance, you can not imagine what this will mean to Kristin and Helen. Thanks. James. My father was born in Commerce. His grandfather was Hiram Kellum, son of John M(arion) Kellum and Leona Adeline Newton of KY and NC respectively. Hiram was born in Wolf Creek, NC in 1869. He had an older brother, named William (middle initial unknown, born in 1855. By the 1880 census, the family of John M Kellum was living in Madison County, TX. I have lost John M and Leona A after 1880. By 1880, they would have been in their 50's. During the 1900 census, Hiram was in Bell County, TX. In 1910, Hiram was listed in Falls County, TX. By 1920, my grandfather, John Sidney Kellum was living in Hunt County. He was married by that time. Hiram had a brother, Joseph, who was married to a Belle (Maiden name unknown). In 1910, Joseph and Belle were living in Falls County with son willie and son Hiram. That Belle is shown as 27 in 1910, which places her birthdate as ca 1883. Probably not your own ancestor. My Belle died of cancer in Dallas before WWII. !NOTES: Posted by: Becky Smith </cgi-genforum/email.cgi?222252718> (ID *****2718) Date: June 28, 2004 at 10:50:57 ; In Reply to: Re: Hiram Kellum b. 10/19/1868 d.08/29/1955 in TX. by Elizabeth Kellum Price of 655: Elizabeth, thanks so much for your reply to my posting! I'm wondering if your William KELLUM (brother of your great grandfather) might be one and the same as the W.B. KELLUM who married Belle SAYLE. Belle SAYLE's husband's name came from the Hunt County, TX Probate File #53 on Thomas SAYLE, her father. From Texas Birth Records: KELLUM, JESSIE -- female born 10-11-1929 in Hunt Co, TX. Mother: KATHRYN BERTIE CLYDE KELLUM. Father: HIRAM FRANKLIN KELLUM. Do any of those names ring a bell with you? Looks like the birth dates of my Belle and your Belle are too far apart for that to be the same person, but I wouldn't be surprised to find that these KELLUMs we're both looking at might be related somehow. Again, thanks for your reply and let's do keep in touch. Becky !NOTES: Posted by: Elizabeth Kellum Price </cgi-genforum/email.cgi?381584200> (ID *****4200)Date: June 29, 2004 at 21:05:48 : In Reply to: Re: Hiram Kellum b. 10/19/1868 d.08/29/1955 in TX. by Becky Smith of 655: Becky, Great grandfather Hiram married twice. First wife was Mary Ella Haydon, mother of my grandfather. She died ca 1905. GGfather Hiram remarried a lady by the name of Jessie (last name unknown). Jessie was quite a bit younger than Hiram. Her first child by Hiram was Jess L. Kellum, b 1906 d 1972. Child number 2 was Hiram Kellum Jr, born in 1907. Frank Kellum was number 3 in 1908. Clarence was born in 1911. W. A. and L. D. were also her sons. All of these men lived in either Dallas or Tyler at the time of my grandfather's death (John Sidney) in 1957. I don't know what happened to step ggmother Jessie. It sounds like we may have a connection. It seems reasonable to me that one of the son's would name a daughter after his mother in 1929. !GRAVE: Find A Grave Memorial# 27138923 with 2 photos
