It is possible he left soon afterwards for Jackson County, Alabama which was created in December 1819.
In 1826 Samuel was a delegate to the annual meeting of the Mud Creek Association of the Primitive Babtist Churches representing the Mt. Gilead Primitive Baptist Church on Crow Creek, Alabama." As per Patty Woodall, 2004. Maybe she means Tennessee not Alabama because I find Saml, Robt, and Price M. Summers in the Crow Creek Mountian, Franklin County, Tennessee in the 1840 census.

Jackson County, Alabama, became a county December 1819. Prior to this it had been Indian Land with squatters on it. Per Patty Woodall. COMMENT: The Summers farm was on the Jackson Co., Alabama and Franklin Co., Tennessee state line. Therefore, many of the records such as census, are reported in TN for some years and in AL for some years. Research in both areas is required even though the family was living at or near the same location. Per Dave Rayburn 1821 - Samuel Summers was a delegate from the Mt. Gilead Primitive Baptist Church to the November Annual meeting of the Primitive Baptist Church in the Mud Creek Association in 1821. H e was a Moderator (preacher) in that church. Rayburn: Note 1: Samuel and Nancy (Middleton) Summers were apparently living in same house Hold with another family who had small children. Probably family of son or son-in-law living in the house. There are two males age 20-30, one of which appears to be married to the age 20-30 female. The other 20-30 male is believed to be Thomas Matthew Summers who did not marry until 1845. Also, census taker showsSamuel's age as 70-80. Records indicate that Samuel would have been 69 and possibly some months when the 1840 census was taken. Note 2: Listed, as living in the house next door to Samuel Summers was Mrs. Middleton Age 20-30. This Middleton has been identified by Patty Woodall as Margaret Jane Taylor-Middleton, widow of Thomas Middleton son of Greenberry Middleton. She has 4 children listed; 2 males age 10-15 and 2 females age 10-15 and two female slaves 1 under 10 And one 10-24. By: E.D.
