I believe some researchers have confused Mary A. E. BATES dau of Wm. F. BATES with her cousin Mary A. BATES dau of Thomas J. and Dicey Rider BATES. Mary A. BATES most probably married Eli M. WEHUNT, Montg. Co., AR 1859. My proof and what I would like others to see is my Mary A. is living with her parents 1850 Cherokee Co., GA. I have not found 1860 census for her after the marriage but 1870 she is living with her WEHUNT children William and Caldonia as well as two of her brothers, next dwelling are her parents Thomas J. and Dicey Rider BATES. This to me is proof this Mary has to be the one who married Eli. Also, 1880 Garland Co., AR, Mary A. BATES WEHUNT married my gggrandfather Levi DAVIS. This family is listed two separate dwellings in 1880, showing mother and father the same but childrens names slightly different on both. William and Caldonia WEHUNT are listed as DAVIS. I have census for Mary A, 1850, 1870, 1880 !900, 1910 & 1920. I found your info on Mary A.E. BATES and would like other researchers of this family to realize they are missing an entire BATES/WEHUNT family by this mistake. I have shared this info with another person and he says his grandmother Dora DAVIS's sister wrote the info in History of Montg. Co., AR v.2 and she has to be correct. I asked him how Mary A E has a child with Thomas J. EDWARDS Sr. in 1861 at approximately the same time Mary A. had her first child William WEHUNT. I feel this incorrect info may prevent others from finding info needed to further there research. Hopefully you can help me spread the word in what I believe others may have incorrectly believed. If others have proof of this not being right, I would like to hear from them. I have an open mind.
