Most likely discharged at Fort Chaffee. !MILITARY: After the Japanese surrendered to the Allies on 14 Aug 1945 Japan was occupied by the Allied forces until the San Francisco Peace Treaty which was signed on 8 Sep 1951 went into effect on 28 Apr 1952. Tom was in occupied Tokyo, Japan sometime between the signing of the treaty and the end of his active duty on 28 Nov 1951, Tom retrieved a Japanese flag being flown in front of a business. He had everyone in his company sign it. There must have been 75 signatures on it. He brought it home with him. The flag was lost sometime after 1975. At the time Tom was in the military, Harry S. Truman was the President of the United States of America. !NOTE: All of William Thomas SUMMERS' and Christeen June KELLUM's children's birth certificates lists father as Thomas William SUMMERS. The Hall Of Records in Broken Arrow burnt down. His mother was determined that his son's name was William Thomas Summers. His father was determined that his name was Thomas William Summers. So he used Thomas William Summers all his life, even for the Army. When it came time to file for his Social Security benefits he found his name was William Thomas SUMMERS. So instead of all of the children having their birth records changed, this is a note for the future.;; personal knowledge of Virginia SUMMERS-ARNOLD. She was shipped to Idaho by train when they moved there. They got her at the age of three. She had a brother that was a blue ribbon winner. When Tom asked the owner why he didn't tell him about the dog show where he could enter Gypsy, the man told Tom that Gypsy would have won and that was the reason. Gypsy lived for 17 years with Tom and his family. She was a great birding dog. Well trained. She died about 1973. !NOTE: During a visit in 1993 with Tom and his 2nd wife, Jean, at their home he told Vickie, Tommy and Virginia that he moved his family to Idaho to escape the wrath of Sam Kellum. Sam was his first wife's father. Sam did not like anyone taking his little girl away from him. Sam caused a lot of friction between Tom and his wife so Tom packed up what he could and moved his family to Idaho. He didn't tell anyone where he was going except for his mother, Myra. One day Sam and his wife, Ruth gave Myra a visit. They were able to get Myra out of her house for a few minutes while they searched for the whereabouts of his daughter. They found some letters from Tom to his mother. Sam and his wife went to Idaho and found everyone. Sam called the Fish and Game Dept. to try and get Tom arrested. He told them that Tom had an illegal elk in his freezer. All they found was one pound of hamburger. Unknown to Sam, Tom and the sheriff were hunting partners. Tom and the sheriff got acquainted through work. Tom was the one that fixed all the county sheriffs cars. !REAL ESTATE ACCOUNT: Lived at 411 Gray Street, Colton, San Bernardino, Calif. after moving back from Idaho. Loan Account book acct# 3025 from First Federal Savings and Loan Assoc. of Pasadena 445 East Green Street, Pasadena 1, Calif. It says "This certifies that Joseph L. Davidheiser Jr. and Virginia L. Davidheiser is a member of First Federal savings and Loan Association of Pasadena and holds a loan from said association, subject to its charter and by-laws and to the laws of the United States of America. Witness the authorized signature of officer or employee this 6th day of December, 1946." It is signed, Alice Lansberry. The loan amount is for $6,550.00, with monthly payments of $39.69 due each month on the 1st day of the month. The first payment is made on the 22 Apr 1947. The last payment was made on 6 Apr 1955 leaving a balance of $4,369.54. The person on the booklet is Thomas Summers at the 411 Gray St., Colton, California !RESIDENCE: 1961-1966: 919 California Street, Calimesa, Riverside County, CA Rented. 3 bedroom 1 bath, 920 sq ft. home with detached garage and work room. Occupation: Truck Driver !RESIDENCE: 1966-1972: 938 Fremont Street, Riverside County, CA Owned. 4 bedroom 2 bath house, detached 2 car garage with 2 room studio apt to the left of the garage. Built in 1966. As of 2007 it is now a 2 bedroom, 2 bath 1,480 sq ft house. Occupation: Truck Driver then Union Rep. !RESIDENCE: 1972-1973~ Riverside and Grand Terrace, CA while he built a house on Pigeon Pass Road, Riverside, CA. About 4 miles from the County dump and lived there for about 15 years. Occupation: Union Rep. !RESIDENCE: Lived at 4266 Mercer Road, H.C. 62 Box 7827, Bullhead City, Arizona 86429 in 1990-1999. They had it built. They sold it in Jan 1999 for $152,000.00. It is a 4 bedroom 2.75 bathroom, 2,456 sq. ft home with attached garage. Recieved Military Honors at graveside. !NOTE: Tom was a self made man. He quit school in the 11th grade. He worked on the railroad about 1952. He was injured when everyone let go of the railroad tie except for him, injuring his back. He suffered with back pain and sometimes severe pain for the rest of his life. He was a farmer in Idaho and a mechanic. He was a truck driver for John Suvercrupe Lumber Company in San Bernardino and Riverside. After 20 years with the company he ran for office of Union Rep in the Teamsters Union Local 1959 and won. One reason he won was because he was a non drinker. The people got tired of a drunk running the show, more like being tired of not getting anywhere with the union. Tom also won because he was a honest man. He loved flying so he took night classes in the 1960's to finish high school. He then took some flying lessons at the Mun. Airport in Banning, Riverside County, California. He also took some night classes at the local college where he could become a crop duster. He became a crop duster where he could do his hobby (Flying). While living in Arizona, Tom became a sheriff and worked in search and rescue.
