Jacob was prominent in his day, and is said to have built the original Bridgeport Hotel, which stands, remodelled into a dwelling, where the Philadelphia highway crosses the Conestoga River. There are many references in Lancaster County to both Jacob Shoemaker and the Bridgeport Hotel. Jacob and his wife, Anna Margaret, had two children: Henry and Dorothea. Jacob's widow married George Dill [Diehl].
