IDENTITY-CONFLICT: H. Stanley Craig, CUMBERLAND COUNTY NEW JERSEY GENEALOGICAL DATA: RECORDS PERTAINING TO PERSONS RESIDING IN CUMBERLAND COUNTY PRIOR TO 1800. (Merchantville, NJ: H. Stanley Craig, Pub.:?), GSF 873,789, p.210-211 states that the Eleazer Smith who married Vashti Lummis is the father of Martha Smith, who married Theodorus Elmer. I believe this is wrong, however. Martha Smith was the oldest daughter of Eleazer Smith Senior, father of Eleazer Smith who married Vashti Lummis.
In the book GENEALOGICAL DATA THE SALEM TENTH IN WEST JERSEY. (Merchantville, NJ: Craig Pub.:1926)HBLL: 929.17499 C844g by H.Stanley Craig, on p. 68: "Eleazar Smith Wf. Mary; chd. Martha and Rebecca, both bap. 8-10-1740; Rebekah, bap. 11-15-1741; Eliazer, bap. 4-22-1744; Elizabeth, bap. 5-29-1746; Sarah, bap.6-23-1748." These baptisms are from the records of the Pittsgrove Presbyterian Church (at Daretown, Salem, NJ). This adds a second generation of Eleazer, spelled Eliazer in this record.
I checked the actural record of the Pittsgrove Pres. Church (FHL film 848,549, item 1) to confirm the book GENEALOGICAL DATA THE SALEM TENTH IN WEST JERSEY. In the microfilm of the actual church record, the spelling of both father and son Eleazer is the same, and is "Eleazer." Other than that, the two records were the same. It also lists a "Martha" as the first child in the family, who would be the right age to have married Theodorus Elmer. The dates used before were not logical and seemed off in the Eleazer-Vashti theory.
