a. Note:   Mary Elizabeth Erety, who married Horace Brewster Shoemaker and resided in Bridgeton, Cumberland County, New Jersey kept up a steady correspondence with her parents. Many insights to their daily lives come down to our generation from these letters. In a family letter written by Mary Erety Shoemaker, 19 Jan 1879, we read: "My mother's birthday & William E's [Mary's brother, William Erety] also. Jan 19th 1864 Mamie died. Fifteen years in heaven - in peace and joy."
