a. Note:   Mary Diver is mentioned by Edward Beatty in "Shoemaker Commentaries", p. 15
  "Paul Beck, Sr. obviously owned property in those colonial days. We know that in the Philadelphia Directory of 1797, a dwelling valued at $400 in which Mary Diver lived, and ground rents on properites on Mary's Alley and 12 South Alley were listed. In Paul Beck Jr.'s will, bequests are made to certain members of the Diver family of "all my estate situated on the north side of South Alley, which alley runs from Delaware, Fifthe to Sixth Street north of High Street, in the City of Philadelpha, said estate having been the property of my father together with the appurtences, etc." Dr. George Erety Shoemaker frequently referred to his Diver relatives."
