 (Microfilm C.103.80004 NC State Archives) In the name of God, Amen, I John Jones of the County of Wayne and State of North Carolina being of sound mind and perfect memory blessed be God for the same, calling into mind the uncertainty of human life and for the better regulating of my worldly concerns do hereby make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following (Viz.)
 Item 1st: I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Tabitha Jones one horse bridle and saddle her choice, three beds, bedsteads and furniture, one chest, one loom and gear and all the residue of my household and kitchen furniture of every kind (one desk, one buffet and one safe excepted) and which I shall name hereafter. I also give and bequeath unto my beloved wife one cart and gear and all my farming utensils of every description. I also give and bequeath unto my beloved wife three cows and calves or cows with calf and one small steer all her choice, four ewes and lambs or ewes with lamb, two sows and six shoats, all my geese and poultry of every description to her and her heirs forever and also all my salt, iron and cider casks and empty barrels of every description to her and her heirs forever.
 Item: I lend unto my beloved wife Tabitha Jones all my lands and one negro man by the name of Britain, one desk, one buffet, one safe and one grindstone during her lifetime or widowhood. I also give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Tabitha Jones a sufficiency of good, sound and wholesome provisions to serve her and her family during one year and it is my will and desire that my neighbors John Rowe and Daniel Howell may be the persons who shall allot and lay off the same.
 Item: I give and bequeath unto my nephew Simon Jones, son of my brother Tobias Jones, after the death or widowhood of my beloved wife Tabitha Jones all my lands and one negro man by the name of Britain , one desk, one buffet, one safe and one grindstone to him and his heirs forever. I also give and bequeath unto my aforesaid nephew Simon Jones the sum of fifty dollars in money to him and his heirs forever.
 Item: It is my desire that all the residue of my property not herein disposed of together with all my moneys herein not named and all my notes, accounts, etc. after paying all my just debts shall be divided into three equal parts and that John Jones and James Jones sons of my brother James Jones shall have one of the aforesaid parts and that Peter Jones and Nathaniel Jones sons of Brother Sampson Jones have one of the aforesaid parts and that Martha Folk wife of Levi Folk have the other remaining part unto them and their heirs forever. And I hereby nominate, constitute and appoint my worthy nephew Simon Jones my sole executor to this my last will and testament at the same time hereby utterly revoking all other and former will or wills by me at any time heretofore made in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this the tenth day of October in the year of out Lord One Thousand eight hundred and thirty eight.
