 This the thirtieth day of November Eighteen Hundred and twenty nine, In the name of God amen, I Barnaba Hamilton of the State of North Carolina and in the County of Wayne being low in body and weak but of a sound mind and disposing memory, thanks be to God for the same and calling to mind the great mortality of mankind and for the better settling of my temporal affairs do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following (Viz) First of all I recommend my soul unto the hands of God who gave it and next my body to the ground from whence it came to be buried in a decent manner at the discretion of my executors. 1st I give unto my beloved wife Susannah Hamilton one bed and furniture one sow and pigs her choice, eight fatling hogs that is now up, four ewes, one water pail, and pigeon, one tub and all the earthenware, two tin basins and all my cotton and cloth, ten barrels of corn, three blade stacks and what short corn after the hogs is fattened, twenty bushels of potatoes, and half of the potato plantings now on hand. 2nd I also lend unto my well beloved wife Susannah Hamilton all my land lying on the south side of the great path called James Barden's path to Aycock Swamp and the appurtenances thereunto also my negro woman Beck, my mare, bridle and saddle and all my cider casks, four pewter plates, one dish and basin, six spoons, one wheel and cards, one cow and calf, one pot and spider skillet, one table, one can of knives and forks and three chairs and the loom, one head hay and sifter, one safe, one flat gun, all this is lent to her, her lifetime or widowhood, my cart and wheels, one ax, one weeding hoe, plows and plow gear, one grub hoe, this lent as the above lent property. 3rd I give unto my well beloved son John Hamilton, his heirs and assigns fifty acres of land called Luis Martin land. 4th I give unto my well beloved daughter Nanny Privy my Negro woman Beck after the widowhood or lifetime of my wife to her and her heirs and assigns. 5th I give unto William Hamilton my dearly beloved son all my land on the south side of Aycock's Swamp to his line. 6th I give unto my well beloved son Barden Hamilton all my land lying on the north side of the great path called James Barden's path and the land lent to my wife to the said Barden Hamilton to him his heirs and assigns after lifetime or widowhood, one bed and furniture, one cow and calf, two yewes (sic) and lambs. 7th And after paying all my just debts, I want the balance of my property sold (&) be equally divided amongst my children if any left, to wit: John, William, Nanny, Barden and Betsy Ann with all of the lent property that is lent to my wife after lifetime of widowhood, lastly I do constitute and appoint Susannah Hamilton and William Hamilton my executors of this my last will and testament, revoking all other will and wills at any time heretofore by me made. The day and year above written, signed, sealed, published and delivered is my last will and testament in presence of us.
