a. Note:   In his youth, Hilario worked the family farm "the V8". He later worked in Balmorhea as a clerk at the local grocer. He started working as a mechanic learning on the job.
  He did not qualify for the draft during WWII for physical reasons. Then, he moved the family to Santa Rita to work for a time in that area. The family also lived in El Paso for some time, but moved back to Balmorhea when both his mother and Eva's mother were getting elderly. Chapo and Eva were active in school activities; he was president of the Spanish school PTA. He enjoyed being umpire for baseball games. He had a good business as an auto mechanic in Balmorhea, but things took a turn--probably due to local politics when Eva wrote to Governor Jester causing the Spanish school to be integrated with the regular Public School in the community. He then took a job with the Texas Highway Dept and the family moved to Pecos. The family resided at the Ash Street house until they moved to Odessa for a brief time. He completed a course to become certified in auto mechanics repair. Finally, settling in Fort Stockton in 1960 where the three youngest attended high school.
 Chapo earned his 15 year pin with the Texas Highway Department in 1965, but unfortunately leflt on disability in 1967 after a car accident.
 Always having a strong work ethic, he was a steadfast provider for his family and the center of strength, common sense and perseverance to overcome difficult times with Eva alongside.
