Vass, which occurred at his home on Wolf Creek, Monroe county, on Tuesday morning, Oct. 13, 1925, at 11 o'clock of heart trouble and other complications. Mr. Vass was born June 20, 1845, therefore his age at death was 80 years, 3 months and 23 days. He was the last surviving member of his family. His wife, who was a Miss Campbell before marriage, preceded him to the tomb about 15 months ago. He is survived by six children - Mr. W. L. Vass of Richwood, W. Va., Mr. Walter Vass of Kansas City, Mo., Mr. G. A. Vass of Wolf Creek, Mrs. C. W. Wikel of Greenville, and Mrs. G. A. Davis of Bluefield, W. Va. Mr. Vass was a member of the Primitive Baptist (New Order) Church. He loved God and kept His commandments and truly there is laid up for him a crown of righteousness. He was a very industrious man and one of the kindest of neighbors. Surely he did life's work well. After services at the house last Thursday morning, conducted by Rev. P. H. Williams of Alderson, the body of the old Soldier of the Cross was taken to the Swope grave-yard near Lindside and there commited to the earth by the side of his wife. May his long rest be sweet."
