  Monroe Watchman newspaper, Union, WV, Thursday, 22 Jan 1925, Vol. 53, No. 52:
 "Mr. Henry C. Vass, an aged and estimable citizen of Monroe county, passed from this transitory and painful life last Thursday morning, Jan. 25, 1925, at 10:30 o'clock at his home near Pickaway. .... Mr. Vass was in his 79th year. He was born April 29, 1846. ..... Mr. Vass was twice married. His first wife was a Miss DeHart, sister of Messrs. M. A. and Jas. R. DeHart. Six children of that marriage are living - Messrs. J. H. of Dallas City, Ill, S. H. and R. A. of Chappell, Neb., and G. W. Vass of Ferris, Ill.; Mrs. W. J. McDowell of Hinton and Mrs. G. W. Marion of Brooks, W. Va. One son, Alva, died two years ago. Some time after the death of his first wife Mr. Vass married Miss Mary Ann Reynolds. She survives him, together with five children - Messrs. John M., and Clarence J. Vass of Ferris, Ill., Harrison of Pickaway, this county, and Mrs Henry Shrader and Miss Margaret Vass, at home. He leaves also one brother, Mr. Thom. Vass of Wolf Creek, this county. The funeral was conducted in Mt. Pleasant church, Sinks Grove, last Saturday afternoon at 1 o'clock, Rev. W. A. Benfield officiating, followed by internment in Mt. Pleasant cemetery."
