Note: Per Mike Marshall in a 26 Nov 1999 posting on the Vass Family Genealogy Forum: "John Vass whose will was proved in Essex County, VA 15 Apr 1755 named the following issue: Philip Vincent, John Jr., Henry, Reuben, Ann Brooks, and Catherine Jones (who was deceased at the time her father's will was drawn). " Per Mike Marshall in a 20 Apr 2000 posting on the Vass Family Genealogy Forum: "...John died in Essex in 1755 and willed his river plantation (250 ac) to his son Philip Vincent Vass. The same year, Philip Vincent, who was already living in Spotsylvania by that date, sold the plantation to William Roane of Essex. I live in Essex and recently located the plantation. There was an old house on the property -- which I believe may have been there in the 1700s. It was called 'South Hill.' Unfortunately, it burned in 1972."
