Note: Following the little schooling we got I fished with my father for 12 years, we fished around Mutton Bay and down the coast at Brador. He also trapped fur and hunted for meat to eat In those days boat was the transportation in the summer and dogs in the winter. You brought wood for fuel to burn and water for the household use and to drink on dog team. Willie gave up fishing one year when it wasn't a good season. He then opened a little business, a grocery store and ran that until he got his pension. "There was always work to do, my dear, fishing was hard work for every member of the family. By the time you were finished the days catch in peak season it was nearly time to leave for the fishing grounds again. When you weren't fishing if it was too windy to fish it was just right for berrypicking. The wind kept the flys away." Interview with Uncle Willie Vatcher in the summer of 1998 at the D. G. Hodd Pavillion in Harrington Harbour. Uncle Willie was moved from the Pavillion where he was very happy and loved to go berry picking on the island above the Pavillion. He did not fit the criteria for the Pavillion so was moved to St. Augustine. SR
